On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, the midterm elections will determine the new composition of the U.S. House of Representatives, with all 435 seats up for election. As of July 1, 2018, the current 115th Congress contained 236 Republicans, 193 Democrats and six vacant seats.

The characteristics of U.S. House districts vary widely from coast to coast and within states. Our nonpartisan Representing US project explores the differences across all 435 districts—from education and poverty levels, to racial and immigrant make-up, to the size of each generation of voting age, partisan lean, and more. Gain insights about the households that will elect—and be represented by—the new House in our Representing US tools below.

Southern California Public Radio on LAist: "Find out how your neighbors voted thanks to these election data nerdery tools"

How to use these tools:

If map or graph doesn’t generate, be sure you have selected an Indicator from the dropdown at right, especially after switching Topics. On map views, use + or – (in toolbar along the left side of any map view) or your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out. You may also click the magnifying glass icon and enter a location to zoom to it. Use the cross-shaped tool to pan and move about, including locating data for Hawaii or Alaska.
Click the home icon or refresh your browser page to reset the view.
All bar graphs and tables may be sorted (high-to-low, low-to-high, or alphabetically) by clicking the sort icon (three stacked bars).
In all views, additional data appears in the tool-tip, which appears if you rest your mouse over a district in a map, bar in a graph, or cell in a table.
All data in the Demographics Tool may be displayed as a percentage or a number (estimate), by changing the “Show Data As” control at right of each view. Median household income and median age data will only appear if you select “Number.”

Data sources and notes:

DEMOGRAPHICS TOOL: All data sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2016 American Community Survey. Additional calculations by APM Research Lab. Data represent average characteristics during calendar year 2016 (latest available at time of publication).
With the exception of the non-Hispanic White population, all other racial and ethnic groups include multiracial persons. For example, a person self-identifying as both Black and Hispanic would be counted in each group. Therefore, adding the number of people in all race groups will sum to more than the total population.
As a confidentiality protection, the U.S. Census Bureau has suppressed the Native Hawaiian population and other small estimates in some districts. They appear as no data in these tools.
The generational data have been aggregated based upon the closest correspondence of Census data to the latest definitions from the Pew Research Center by birth cohort. Data in “generations of voting age” have been aged forward to 2018. Data have not been further adjusted for migration or mortality. Percentages in “generations of voting age” employ the 18 and older population as the denominator (rather than the entire population, as elsewhere in the tool).
Margins of error (for a 90% confidence interval) are available in the tool-tip for all data. In the case of APM Research Lab aggregations, we have calculated new margins of error.
Data on Trump/Clinton margin by U.S. House district sourced from Cook Political Report’s most recent by state and district, which uses data collected by POLIDATA. Further methodology can be found in the by Cook. At-large districts were used to cross-check the 2016 presidential election voting data from state’s websites.
Data on U.S. House election results sourced from , Cole Haan Mens Grandpro Tennis Sneaker M56zd1
the Topshop Key Trim Loafers Black TjDjbV949
and states’ Secretary of State offices. Only the latest election data is shown; therefore, margins of victory in House races reflect special elections where held since 2016.
Data for Pennsylvania do not use the February 2018 district boundaries issued by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as neither Census nor voting data are not yet available for these geographies.
In some cases, margins of victory may differ slightly from the gap between candidates’ vote shares, due to rounding from figures with greater precision.
Uncontested races as well as same-party races (e.g., Democrat vs. Democrats) are represented as 100% blue or red in view 2 and 3.

An investment in the Funds involves risk, including possible loss of principal. The principal risks of investing in Funds include equity, market, management and non-diversification risks. The market value of a security or instrument may decline due to general market conditions that are not specifically related to a particular company, such as real or perceived adverse economic conditions, changes in the general outlook for corporate earnings, changes in interest or currency rates or adverse investor sentiment generally.

Other risks include:

Micro-, Small- and Medium-Sized Company Risk: Investing in the securities of micro-, small- and medium-sized companies generally will be more volatile, and loss of principal could be greater than investing in the securities of larger, more established companies. Dividend Investment Risk: Dividends are not guaranteed. A company’s future abilities to pay dividends may be limited and a company may cease paying dividends at any time. Indirect Foreign Exposure Risk: Investments in foreign companies are subject to special risks, including currency fluctuations, social, economic, and political uncertainties, which could increase volatility. Fixed Income Risks: Fixed income funds are subject to additional risk in that they may invest in high-yield/high-risk bonds and may be subject to greater levels of liquidity risk. Additionally, investing in bonds entails interest rate risk and credit risk. Municipal Securities Risk: Municipal bond fund income may be subject to state and local income taxes and the alternative minimum tax. Capital gains, if any, will be subject to capital gains tax. Investments in municipal bonds are subject to interest rate risk, or the risk that the bonds will decline in value because of changes in market interest rates. Municipal bonds are also subject to call risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, below investment grade securities risk, and interest rate futures risk. Single-State Investment Risk: A fund that invests primarily in instruments issued by or on behalf of one state will generally be more volatile and loss of principal could be greater due to state specific risk. Please refer to the prospectus for each fund's specific risks. Foreign investment and Emerging Markets risk: Foreign investments can be riskier than U.S. investments. Potential risks include adverse political and legal developments affecting issuers located and/or doing business in foreign countries, currency risk that may result from unfavorable exchange rates, liquidity risk if decreased demand for a security makes it difficult to sell at the desired price, and risks that stem from substantially lower trading volume on foreign markets. These risks are generally greater for investments in emerging markets, which are also subject to greater price volatility, and custodial and regulatory risks.

Please consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of the Fund(s) carefully before investing. To obtain a prospectus, which contains this and other important information about the Fund(s), is available . Please read the prospectus carefully before investing.
